Sonrisa de los cielos

Cuando Élder Starkey y yo visitamos la Ciudad de Guatemala esto la semana pasada para una visita dental, nos pusimos para meternos en una visita corta al templo. (¡Mi parte favorita!)

Me encanta sentarse en el salón celestial y pensar en cosas de la eternidad. Esta vez, me encontré a través de un verso en D & 76 C que golpeó mi corazón. Después del Salvador, explica todas las bendiciones que están en el almacén para los fieles y Joseph Smith testifica de Cristo, que todos los hijos de la tierra son engendrados hijos e hijas de Dios, dice por ver a un ángel de Dios, en la autoridad, "el cual estaba en el seno del padre" decisiones incorrectas (y soberbio), después de lo cual "y los cielos lloraron por él... un hijo de la mañana."

Pensé en lo que significó en el seno del Padre, de ser apreciado y amado. He decidido que me gustaría tener los cielos sonrisa para mi elección todos los días, de quedarse "en el seno del Padre" eligiendo ser exactamente obediente. . Y cuando me olvido, para arreglar las cosas rápidamente. 
Tengo un amigo, Alison, que formación de triatlones, dice a sus aprendices para recordar algo que son perfectos con, usted sabe, algo que no todos los días, como cepillarse los dientes o hacer la cama.

Cuando recordamos algo bueno que hemos hecho, se puede extender adecuadamente a otras partes de nuestra vida.

Una de esas cosas que cada uno de elegir había llegado a la tierra! Buena elección. Y tantas buenas opciones pueden salir de esto!

Otra es la de estudiar idioma: (de élder Holland, Predicar mi evangelio, Capitulo 7)

"No se contente con adquirir únicamente lo que llamamos el vocabulario misional. Si se esfuerza por superarse en el idioma, tendrá mayor acceso al corazón de la gente”

 

Also, "Si usted no habla inglés, debe estudiarlo al servir como misionero, ya que le será una bendición en su misión y también el resto de su vida. El aprendizaje del inglés le permitirá ayudar a edificar el reino del Señor de formas adicionales y será una bendición para usted y para su familia."

Pregunta de hoy: Explique en su segunda lengua algo en el cual se siente cómodo y bueno, que le ayuda a tener una "victoria" con regularidad. O, explique (en su segunda lengua) un tiempo ha sentido la sonrisa del cielo en algo que hizo.

Como un joven misionero, he trabajado en el sur de la Florida, donde los vecinos y las áreas contratantes fueron en su mayoría judíos y no muy receptivo. Después de cuatro meses de ponerse en contacto y yendo de puerta en puerta, trabajando duro para mantener los horarios y normas de nuestra misión, una referencia de temple square en Salt Lake de un adulto joven que quería ser enseñados, y posteriormente bautizado. Si bien no encontramos esta referencia, pero Sor Stephens y yo sentí que se trataba de un pequeño mensaje del Padre celestial, para que nuestro trabajo fue aceptado. El Señor sabía de nuestros deseos de enseñar y bautizar y dio las bendiciones de su propia manera. ¡El cielo sonrió y nosotros también!

Dígame a un tiempo que sintió la sonrisa del cielo. Sé que sonrieron cuando hizo una opción de servir una misión.

Heaven's smile

When Elder Starkey and I visited Guatemala City this past week for a dental visit, we got to squeeze in a short visit to the temple.   (My favorite part!)

I love to sit in the celestial room and think about things of eternity. This time, I ran across a verse in D&C 76 that hit my heart.  After the Savior explains all the blessings that are in store for the faithful and Joseph Smith testifies of Christ, that all the children of the earth are begotten sons and daughters of God,  he tells about seeing an angel of God, in authority, "who was in the bosom of the Father"  made incorrect (and prideful) choices, after which "the heavens wept over him...a son of the morning." 

I thought about what it must have meant to be in the bosom of the Father--to be esteemed and loved.  I have decided that I would like to have the heavens smile for my choices every day--to stay "in the bosom of the Father"  by choosing to be exactly obedient.  And when I forget, to fix things quickly.

I have a friend, Alison, who training for triathlons, tells her trainees to remember something they are perfect with--you know, something that you do every day--like brushing teeth or making the bed.  

When we remember something good that we have done, it can aptly extend to other parts of our life. 

One of those things that each of chose was come to earth!  Good choice.  And so many good choices can come from this!

Another is to study language:  (From Elder Holland, Preach My Gospel, chapter 7)

"Don’t be satisfied with what we call a missionary vocabulary only. Stretch yourself in the language, and you will gain greater access to the hearts of the people.”

Also, "If you do not speak English, you should study it as a missionary. This will bless you during your mission and throughout your life. Learning English will enable you to help build the Lord’s kingdom in additional ways and will be a blessing for you and your family."

Today's question:  Explain in your second language something you feel comfortable and good at, that helps you have a "victory" regularly.    Or, explain (in your second language) a time you have felt the heavens smile on something you did. 

As a young missionary, I worked in southern Florida, where our neighbors and tracting areas were mostly Jewish and not very receptive.  After four months of contacting and going door to door, working hard to keep the hours and rules of our mission, a reference came from temple square in Salt Lake for a young adult who wanted to be taught, and subsequently baptized.  We did not find this referral, but Sister Stephens and I both felt that it was a small message from Heavenly Father that our work was accepted.  The Lord knew of our desires to teach and baptized and gave those blessings in His own way.  The heavens smiled and so did we!

Tell me about a time you felt the heavens smile.

I know they smiled when you made a choice to serve a mission.  Thank you!!

Ser un discipulo verdadero

Querida Elder o Hermana,

            Hermana Curtiss sugirió que escribir a los que están aprendiendo inglés. Porque estoy aprendiendo de misioneros de español o inglés como primera lengua, planeo escribir tanto español e inglés. Trate leer el lenguaje que es menos familiar a ti primero... si puede corregir mi traducción, vale 5 puntos por cada corrección.   Si usted decide responder en otra lengua que su lengua materna, es 5 puntos por cada párrafo.

           Bendiciones para ti!  Es el primer correo que voy a escribir sobre lo que fue discutido en el Consejo de liderazgo ayer--"ser un verdadero discípulo":

           Cuando Élder Starkey y yo estábamos volando a visitar a una hija en Arizona en noviembre, vi a mi lado en la explanada del aeropuerto lo que creía era presidente Uchtdorf. Me ha recordado con mis labios (estilo de Centroamérica) a Élder Starkey: "¡Mira--que está caminando junto a nosotros!"  Élder Starkey respondió: "¡Sé!" No dijimos nada más. Más tarde, caminando en el avión, haciendo malabares con equipaje, pasó los primeros pocos asientos y he visto Presidente Uchtdorf mirándome. "Estás en casa, o vas a casa?" Presidente Uchtdorf pidió. 

  

         ["Bien, hemos estado en una misión y continuamos al otro. ¡Como papas fritas, nadie puede comer sólo un!" Él y la Hermana Uchtdorf ambos querían saber donde nos había y cuáles eran nuestras metas. Nos dirigimos a Cobán, Guatemala. Sonrieron, y caminamos para encontrar a nuestro asiento.]

            Más tarde, leía en 1 Nephi 14 sobre el "Apóstol del Cordero". Nos acabábamos de encontrar y de hablar con uno. Él apóstol podría haber leído el periódico, comprobando su correo electrónico, dirigiéndose a su esposa - pero ya que la gente entraba en el aeroplano, alzó la vista y por fuera y les prestaban atención, mirando a los ojos, uno por uno. 

           Pensé en el Señor elevado en 3 Nephi... uno tras otro, la gente que fue juntada podría sentir y ver y saber, porque extendió la mano para sentir cariño por ellos, uno tras otro. Una hermana en nuestra sala de casa tenía un amigo, no era SUD de California que viajó para visitar el Centro de conferencias de Lago Salado. Cuando el hombre terminó de recibir su gira, el "guía" encima del edificio pasado su tarjeta de visita, y dijo al hombre llamarle en cualquier momento. "Sólo llámeme 'Dieter'", dijo. Y el amigo realmente llamó para dejar a su nuevo amigo "Dieter" oyen de su bautismo. 

¡He decidido que si un apóstol del Cordero tiene el tiempo para ponerse en contacto y compartir el testimonio y el interés a otros, tal vez hago, también!

      

Pregunta: ¿puede pensar en una experiencia significativa últimamente, dónde el Padre Celestial le ha llevado a ponerse en contacto o ayudar a alguien a sentir, ver y sepa?

              Nuestro vecino al lado duespués de ayundándonos con basudera y agua puro aceptó la invitación de Élder Starkey y yo para compartir una Noche de la Familia este miércoles. La familia es tan amable, y el pequeño muchacho ama Capitan América.  Por favor, ore por familia de Romerito y nosotros (somos verdes.)  :)

Being a True Disciple

Dear Missionary Sister or Elder,

      Sister Curtiss suggested that I write to each of you.  Because I am learning about sending to missionaries of either Spanish or English as a first language, I plan to write in Spanish, then English.  Try to read the language that is less familiar to you first... if you can correct my translation, it is worth 5 points per correction.  If you choose to write back in another language than your native language, it is 5 points per paragraph.  Blessings to you!

The first email I will write is about what was discussed in Leadership Council yesterday--being a true disciple.

      When Elder Starkey and I were flying to visit a daughter in Arizona in November, I saw next to me on the airport concourse what I thought was President Uchtdorf.  I pointed with my lips (Central America-style) to Elder Starkey:  "Look!  See who is walking beside us!"  Elder Starkey replied, "I know!"  We said nothing.  Later, walking onto the airplane, juggling luggage, I passed the first few seats and saw President Uchtdorf looking up at me.  "Are you home, or are you going home?"  President Uchtdorf asked.

                        

      ["Well, we have been on a mission and are going on another.  Like potato chips, no one can eat just one!"  He and Sister Uchtdorf both wanted to know where we had been and where we were headed.  We were headed to Cobán, Guatemala.  They smiled, and we walked on to find our seat.]

      Later, I was reading in 1 Nephi 14 about the "Apostle of the Lamb." We had just met and spoken with one.  He could have been reading the newspaper, checking his email, talking to his wife--but as people were entering the airplane, he looked up and out and cared about them--looking at their eyes, engaging them, one by one.  I thought of the risen Lord in 3 Nephi...one by one, the people that were gathered could feel and see and know, because He reached out to care for them, one by one.

      A sister in our home ward had a non-LDS friend from California who traveled to visit the Salt Lake Conference Center.  When the man finished receiving his tour, the "guide" on top of the building handed over his business card, and told the man to call him anytime.  "Just call me 'Dieter,'" he said.  And the friend did call to let his new friend "Dieter" hear of his baptism. 
                  

      I have decided that if an apostle of the Lamb has time to contact and share testimony and interest in others, maybe I do, too!

Question:  Can you think of a significant experience lately, where Heavenly Father has led you to contact or help someone feel, see and know? 

      Our next door neighbor,  after helping us with the garbage and pure water, accepted the invitation from Elder Starkey and I to share a Family Night this Wednesday.  The family is so kind, and the little boy loves Capitan America.  Please, pray for the family of little Romero and for us (we are new at this.)
